Beginning with a new therapist can sometimes feel uncomfortable or a bit daunting. I do my best to make this experience as easy as possible. Maybe you are starting therapy for the first time or in a transition from a past therapist. You may feel that therapy has worked for you in the past and you are now ready to deal with some deeper issues. This can also be a very exciting time. Below are some frequently asked questions that will hopefully be helpful to you. Please feel free to contact me by email or by phone, 646-483-7984, to let me know how I can be of further help.

How much will therapy cost?

If you have health insurance, I will be happy to help you clarify the details to check your coverage. I am an in-network provider with Healthfirst. Otherwise, I work as an out-of-network provider. You are ultimately responsible for all fees and those are paid at the time of service.

Many people prefer to pay out of pocket and not use insurance. This helps to avoid having any diagnosis attached to your name. In this case, I work with a range of fees. If I do not offer fees within your budget, I will be glad to refer you to agencies or other therapists that can work with you and allow you to get started.

I recognize that paying for counseling is an investment.  I will do everything possible to get you the help you desire.

Where are you located?

My office is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on West End Avenue and 93rd streets. It is accessible by subway using the 1, 2 ,3, B and C lines.

Are my sessions confidential?

I take confidentiality very seriously. It is your choice to share information with others that is discussed in session. The only limitations to confidentiality occur when a client is either a threat to themselves or someone else.

What happens in a counseling session?

It is quite natural to feel anxious at your first counseling session. I understand the courage it takes to share your feelings with someone you don’t yet know. I try to make the sessions feel as safe and relaxing as possible. I may use a number of different techniques so we can work together to relieve your anxiety or depression, set goals, improve your relationships and make positive and hopeful changes in your life.

How often do I come to counseling?

How often you come to counseling will be something we can decide together. Usually counseling begins with a weekly session. Regularity is very effective to get results. You may decide that to work more deeply, you would like more than one session each week. Again, this is something we can discuss together.
