Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Anyone who has seen or experienced a traumatic event can suffer from PTSD. A Traumatic event is an event that involves actual or threatened death or serious injury or a threat to you or someone else’s physical safety.

Some examples of traumatic events could be

  • sexual abuse or assault
  • domestic violence
  • serious accidents
  • crimes
  • fire or flood

Some events like 9/11 can cause stress for anyone who saw the disaster or who lost loved ones.

Some symptoms of PTSD are

  • the event is experienced over and over in recurrent dreams or nightmares
  • flashbacks
  • hypersensitivity to outside reminders of the event
  • avoiding people, activities thoughts or places associated with the event
  • difficulty concentrating
  • changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • angry outbursts
  • little interest in normal activities
